I’m Gingerboy, but you can call me GB. In between cooking up my favourites for the Melbourne foodie crowd, you can find me in South-east Asia strolling through narrow laneways trying anything – and everything – that makes my mouth water.
Imagine eating some of the best Asian street food while you travel the world… that’s my job! Then I come back to Melbourne so you can try it for yourself. From crispy pork belly buns to steamed prawn dumplings and yellow seafood curry, I make it all. Pretty awesome right?
Chef Teage spent years exploring south-east Asia and beyond, where he fell hard for the heat, the sizzle and sensuality of the street food and hawker markets of Bangkok, Vietnam, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. The food at Gingerboy is a love song to his favourite hawker adventures.
“I loved everything about street food, including the environment it was served in,” says Teage. “So that inspired the design of Gingerboy, too: we wanted the dining room to channel that energy, that colour and vitality.” So, whether you’re here for a quick bite, or a big night with friends, we’ve got you covered.
Whether you’re dropping in for a craft beer at the bar, or settling in for the full Gingerboy over dinner with wine, you’re sure to find something that sings with the food. Our bad-boy Som has crafted a locally focused wine list that hits all the classic notes, and throws in some delicious curve balls and international stars.
We don’t just do SE Asian on a plate, we do it in a glass as well. The bold flavours of lemongrass, kaffir lime, lychees, chillies, ginger, coriander, find their way into our legendary cocktail list. From refreshing tipples to cut through the spice, to desert-worthy boozers, our drink selection will blow you away.
Oh, and our bar and kitchen have a closed-loop recycling system that ensures all produce is used to its fullest potential and waste is minimised.

hosted at GB in 2009. Luckily, we get it a lot because we work our butts off to make your next cocktail party/big event/corporate confab/private dinner/birthday bash/first divorce/second wedding unforgettable.
Overlooking a classic Melbourne laneway, our Upstairs function space is a chic and versatile area that can handle pretty much whatever type of party you want to throw (well, OK so that one with the cowboys did get a little out of hand, apologies Steven).
We hate to be the one to tell you, but that glass toilet brush / Gold Class voucher / celebrity scent / hose reel was a flop. No-one likes a lame gift, but everyone loves a fantastic dinner at one of the best restaurants in town. Give them a gift they won't have to pretend to love, a GB voucher will always go down well.
